Who this course is for

Software developers who want to build applications, integrations, and agents with Claude while preparing for the Developer Foundations certification.

Expect technical examples. Familiarity with Python or TypeScript, REST APIs, command-line tools, and basic software development will help you follow the course. This is foundational certification preparation for developers, rather than an introduction to using an AI chat app.

Proposed three-week curriculum

Week 1

Build a Claude Application

Start with an application’s requirements and trace how the integration sends work to Claude and handles the result.

Design an API integration around an actual application task
Work through messages, streaming, structured data, and error handling
Compare model choices, cost, and latency tradeoffs
Configure Claude Code for the example project
Create an application skeleton and integration checklist

Week 2

Add Agents, Tools, and Reliable Context

Extend the application with controlled tool access and the information Claude needs to complete the task.

Choose a workflow or an agent pattern for the task
Trace a tool-use loop and define custom tools
Connect tools through Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Design prompts and manage the context sent to Claude
Practice with a tool-enabled workflow and reusable prompts

Week 3

Test, Protect, and Improve the Application

Examine failures, strengthen the application boundaries, and turn review findings into a preparation plan.

Evaluate outputs and debug application behavior
Handle malformed output and integration failures
Review access boundaries and prompt-injection defenses
Compare caching, batching, and model selection options
Work through original exam-style scenarios and document study gaps

How the live course works

Three weekly live teaching sessions with worked technical examples, guided practice, discussion, and original exam-style scenarios. Bring practical development experience and use the exercises to identify gaps in your preparation. This course supplements hands-on experience; completing the course does not guarantee certification.

Do I need to know how to code?

Yes. The course is intended for software developers and uses technical examples. Familiarity with Python or TypeScript, APIs, and development tools is recommended.

Can anyone register for the certification exam?

You can join this training interest list regardless of employer. Anthropic currently restricts exam registration to employees of Claude Partner Network organizations using a recognized company email address. Check Anthropic’s current eligibility rules before planning to take the exam. Course participation does not grant exam access.
